Palma to Cabrera by Yacht: The Ultimate Island Escape

Palma to Cabrera: Mallorca's Most Spectacular Yacht Route

The Cabrera archipelago is a protected national park located 10 nautical miles south of Mallorca's southern tip. With crystal-clear water, abundant marine life, and the famous Blue Cave, it's widely considered the crown jewel of Balearic sailing.

The Route

Departure: Palma de Mallorca (Club de Mar or Marina Port de Mallorca)

Distance: Approximately 30 nautical miles one way

Duration: Full day charter (8–10 hours recommended)

Morning: Palma to Colònia de Sant Jordi

Depart Palma heading southeast along the coast. Pass the stunning beaches of Es Trenc — Mallorca's most beautiful stretch of sand — before reaching the small harbour of Colònia de Sant Jordi.

Midday: Crossing to Cabrera

The open-water crossing from Colònia de Sant Jordi to Cabrera takes approximately 45 minutes. Your skipper will choose the optimal route based on wind and sea conditions.

Afternoon: Exploring Cabrera

  • Cabrera Harbour: Drop anchor in the main harbour, surrounded by crystal-clear water and the medieval castle on the hill
  • Blue Cave (Cova Blava): The island's most famous attraction — a sea cave where sunlight creates an ethereal blue glow on the water
  • Snorkelling: The protected waters around Cabrera have some of the richest marine life in the western Mediterranean
  • Evening: Return to Palma

Depart Cabrera in the late afternoon for the return journey. Arrive in Palma as the sun sets over the cathedral — a magical end to the day.

    Important Information

  • Permit required: Navigation permits for Cabrera must be obtained in advance. We handle all permits for our charter guests at no additional cost.
  • Weather dependent: The crossing requires calm sea conditions. Your skipper will confirm viability on the morning of departure.
  • Recommended yacht: A motor yacht of 15m+ is ideal for the crossing, offering speed and comfort.
  • What to Bring

  • Sunscreen and hat (there's limited shade on Cabrera)
  • Snorkelling gear (we provide basic sets, but bring your own for the best experience)
  • Camera (the Blue Cave is incredibly photogenic)
  • Light jacket for the return journey
