Ses Salines Salt Flats & Flamingos: A Unique Yacht Charter Experience
The south coast of Mallorca offers one of the island's most unexpected treasures: the ancient Ses Salines salt flats, home to a resident colony of flamingos. Combining a yacht charter with a visit to this natural wonder creates an unforgettable Mallorca experience.
The Salt Flats Heritage
The Ses Salines salt flats have been in continuous operation since Phoenician times, over 2,500 years ago. The geometric ponds create a stunning landscape of pink, white, and blue that stretches along the coast.
Flamingo Colony
Since the early 2000s, a growing colony of greater flamingos has made the salt flats their home. The best viewing is from April to September, when up to 200 birds can be spotted feeding in the shallow ponds.
The Yacht Charter Route
Depart from Palma or Colonia de Sant Jordi and cruise along the south coast. Anchor off Es Trenc beach for a morning swim, then continue to the salt flats area. Our crew can arrange a guided shore excursion to the flamingo viewing points.
Practical Information
- Best season: April to September for flamingos
- Anchoring: Good holding in sand off Es Trenc, 3-5m depth
- Shore access: Tender to Colonia de Sant Jordi for salt flat tours
